Hi, my name is Mark Barden. I’m the Father of Julia Barden, a 15 year old junior tennis player in Singapore. She has been coached by Shane Marshall for approximately two years now. Julia has won the championship for singles and doubles in the Intermediate tournament, the Ladies Doubles championship in the Singapore Open and many other runner-up finishes too. She is now competing internationally in the junior ITF circuit.
I want to highly recommend Tennis Inc., and the coaching that is provided by Shane Marshall. Here are my 3 main reasons.
1. I really like the fact that Shane Marshall uses a positive style of coaching to the younger players. There is no yelling or screaming, there is no negative style of pushing or cajoling by the coach. It is always positive, in a calm voice and reasonable. I think this is very important, especially for very junior players that are still developing their personalities. In my opinion this “style” of coaching gets much better results over the long term than the yelling and screaming style.
2. At Tennis Inc., and with Shane Marshall, the basics of foot work, stroke mechanics and tennis tactics are stressed and taught as much as possible. Especially for junior players this is absolutely essential if they want to have success later on when they are 14, 15, 16 and even older. If you don’t learn the basics you will never be able to play at a high level. For example if you only learn to put the ball in, when you start playing bigger and stronger players you will not be able to compete anymore. It is very important for juniors that they learn how to properly move and confidently hit the ball. They may lose to players who just put the ball in when they are young but later on they will easily beat these players. I believe that Tennis Inc. is teaching players for the long run, not only to win tomorrow.
3. The final reason that I can recommend Tennis Inc. is because the head coach, Shane Marshall absolutely loves tennis and is also a very good player. I find that there are many coaches that can’t really play tennis very well. They can hit the ball well, but they can’t really play well in competitive situations. I think that this is important because Shane Marshall not only understands movement and stroke mechanics but also understands very well match tennis. This again really helps the junior (and senior) players because of his experience and tactical expertise.
I firmly believe that Tennis Inc. provides a tennis teaching and coaching service that is second to none in Singapore, and provides a very good environment for the players to not only improve their tennis but also become competitors and build strong and confident personalities. This can build the foundation of success for life.
